VOLUNTEER

If you can read this please consider helping someone who can’t

Literacy Orange continually maintains a waiting list of adults who need to be matched to a volunteer tutor as soon as possible. Our ability to provide each of these students with a volunteer is critical to our mission of improving lives through literacy. The dedication of your time would mean the world to a number of our students.

Literacy Orange volunteers are expected to:

*Consider making a one year commitment

*Complete a volunteer training class

*Plan lessons
*Meet two hours per week with a student
*Submit bimonthly progress reports
*Respect the confidentiality of our students

If you are interested in becoming a tutor, please email our Program Coordinator, Billie Hanlon, at litcoordnwbg@gmail.com.

While our tutors make up the vast majority of our volunteer base, there are other ways to get involved with Literacy Orange as well. We will be participating in many events this year and we can use all of the help we can get!

* May: We will be at the Noah Webster Weekend in Goshen on May 6th & 7th. We will be hosting events on both Friday night (Scrabble competition) and Saturday (spelling bee).

* June: In June (date TBA) we will once again be at the Middlesex County Horse Show in Allentown, NJ to promote the “Journey-Or-Not” program. We need volunteers to help gather donated items for our silent auction.

* July: Literacy Orange will be manning a booth at the Warwick Sidewalk Sale this July. We will be holding a book sale and a Dog-Person look alike contest, and we will need volunteers to staff these events.

* August: We will have a presence at the Warwick Chamber of Commerce “Ladies Night Out,” in August, and we will need volunteers to staff our booth.

* November: Literacy Orange hosts the SOAR Professional Women’s Conference every year in November and we are expecting that this year’s conference will be the biggest yet. Committees are forming now, and we are looking for motivated volunteers to help with the planning and execution of this conference.

If you are interested in volunteering to help with any of these events, please email brilowell@gmail.com
